To Fear Or Not To Fear...That Is The Question

With less than a week away from the start of the 2010 Spring II kickball season, there is already a development that has caught the attention of the Balls In Action organization.  With a revamped lineup, B.I.A. has made it a purpose to even things up with their rivals, Fear My Spheres, this coming season.  That is, until now...

This past Monday, it was noted that there was now an open spot for the Wednesday night league.  The league had been filled about a week after registration was open.  Upon calling the former coach of Fear My Spheres, Lauren, it was determined that it is more than likely Fear My Spheres has dropped out of this upcoming season, citing reasons of an upcoming marriage for the new coach.  That, or the new coach wants to play under a different name and just hasn't registered yet.

"[The new coach] doesn't want to defame the Fear My Spheres name." stated Jacob today.

For many, this makes sense.  Fear My Spheres has won 8 championships in all 8 seasons that they have played for the City of Houston.  There would be a lot of pressure for a new coach to keep such a streak alive.

As of now, it is all speculation as to why there is an open spot available, but as soon as more news is made available, it will be reported here first.

New Post-Game Award Announced for Spring II Season

The ever popular McDonald's McGangBang Player of the Game Award will now have to share the spotlight with a new post-game award, the KFC Double Down Play of the Game.  The player, or players, involved with the play of the game, will be awarded with a KFC Double Down sandwich.

The Double Down contains "bacon, two different kinds of melted cheese, the Colonel’s secret sauce... pinched in between two pieces of Original Recipe chicken fillets."

Although the Double Down has been widely ridiculed as unhealthful, NPR compared its calorie count favorably to that of McDonald's Premium Crispy Chicken Club Sandwich.  Both the grilled and fried Double Down products had nearly a full day's worth of sodium according to the American Heart Association's guidelines.  A Los Angeles Times reviewer pointed out that the grilled chicken Double Down has fewer calories than does the fried chicken Double Down (460 versus 540) but that the grilled chicken option has more sodium (1,430 mg versus 1,380).  The L.A. Times article noted that either Double Down has fewer calories than does Burger King's TenderCrisp chicken sandwich, which has 800 calories.  A San Francisco Chronicle review described the Double Down as "truly disgusting."

Say hello to your arteries!

2010 Spring II Schedule Revealed

On May 5th, Balls In Action will have the honor of christening the 2010 Spring II season by playing the season opener against a familiar opponent, D'Feeters.  B.I.A. will also play their rivals, Fear My Spheres.  New Kicks on the Block, a tough opponent in the past, will be on the team's agenda as well.  New opponents will be plentiful this season, as Balls N' Dolls, BHP Billiton, Brews on First, and Toe Poke will meet Balls In Action for the first time.

Below is the official team schedule:

May 5 will be Sara Garcia Day, from 8:30pm-10:30pm at Field #1.  We will honor Sara by retiring her shirt and have a fajita dinner after the team's first two games.  We will also be celebrating Amanda's birthday with beer, cake and a Muppet's Treasure Island drinking game.

June 2 will be Fan Appreciation Day at Field #2.  All fans who show up to either game will receive free beer!

B.I.A. "Loaners" Help in Fear My Spheres' 8th Straight Championship

Roy, Ashley and Scott found themselves in a very aggressive matchup against TBD on Wednesday night as Fear My Spheres won 13-5, although it wasn't as easy as the final score appears.

The game began ugly, with TBD scoring first.  However, defensive efforts by Ashley, including quality hitting by the three, aided in an 8 run inning to put the team up for good, despite being down for the first couple of innings.

The end result locked up Fear My Spheres' season with yet another championship, their 8th in as many seasons.

Fear My Spheres would go on to lose their last game of the season, 9-4, but no tears were shed from any player as their championship goal was achieved earlier in the night.

After the games, Fear My Spheres' head coach, Lauren, thanked the B.I.A. organization for allowing some of their players to play for them this season.

"It was tough finding players, and I'm definitely appreciative of having players from Balls In Action helping us out this season.  This season would not have been possible without them."
